It is not that you can only make trades when the market is open. But you can also make a trade during the pre and post-stock market open time. For this, The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq both offer extended hours of trading every day. The NYSE offers a pre-stock market open time of trading starts from 6:30 am to 9:30 am EST. The post-stock market open time of trading begins at 4 pm and ends at 8 pm EST.

The Nasdaq, on the other hand, offers a pre-stock market open time of trading that begins from 4 am and opens until 9:30 am EST. And the post-stock market open time of trading begins from 4 pm to 8 pm. However, it is also important to note that neither of the exchanges allows trading during the weekends, and these stock market open times are only on weekdays.

Any trades made before the stock market open time will enter in a queue and remain in that queue until the market opens at 9:30 am EST on that specific day. The same goes for the post-stock market open time. Any trade made after the closing will remain in the queue until the next stock market opens the next morning.
